Voices of Art
At the Bikuben Foundation, in collaboration with Betty Nansen Teatret and Kunsthal Charlottenborg, we share a common desire to stimulate political conversations about the importance of art for people and society.
As part of this shared ambition, in 2023 we initiated the development of a communication education program. It is with and for professionals in the art fields who want to strengthen their potential to participate in public and political conversations about the importance of art for people and society.
The goal is for the program to help improve the basic conditions for art to contribute to change in society.
The education process
Voices of Art will run for the first time in spring 2024.
Through a hands-on program, participants are introduced to a wide range of communication disciplines that can support their participation in societal debates.
The program is also an opportunity for participants to expand their network within their own and related fields in the art world, thus strengthening knowledge sharing and engagement across the board.
The program consists of participatory workshops with presentations, training, and work on a personal case. Each session is led by a communication expert who has current practice within the theme, and there is also a professional inspirational presentation for each session.
Participants are selected based on a desire to include different professions, backgrounds, and perspectives.
The program will introduce the following communication disciplines:
- Communication theory
- Personal profile, positioning and role
- Public Affairs
- Rhetoric and speaking techniques
- Press work
- Media training
- Social Media
Who can apply to participate?
The program is targeted at professionals in the art fields who want to strengthen their potential to participate in public and political conversations about the importance of art for people and society.
The program is for artists, art institution managers and employees, debaters, project managers, communicators, researchers and other art policy voices within visual arts, performing arts, and other art forms.
How can I apply?
There will be an annual application round. Keep an eye on news from the Bikuben Foundation, where it will be announced when applications are open.
How do you select who gets in?
We want a diverse composition of participants based on the assumption that it will strengthen the quality of the education, including because mutual inspiration from other experiences is considered important for teaching and networking. We aim for an overall balance in the group of participants, e.g. based on the following parameters:
- Age, geography, gender, ethnicity, social, economic and other relevant diversity.
- Different experiences - such as professionalism, background, employment, etc.
- Between visual arts, performing arts and other relevant professions in the cultural sector (such as institution managers, communicators, project managers, debaters, researchers, etc.
- The admitted applicants work professionally in and/or with the visual arts, performing arts or closely related fields in Denmark.
How much time do I need to set aside for the education process?
The program consists of four training days of approximately 7 hours duration, primarily on weekdays between 9:00-16:00. There will also be an introductory dinner and limited preparation for the individual course sessions and work on a final presentation.
Who teaches on the program?
Teachers, speakers and experts change regularly. Check out the latest news about the program in our news archive.
Does it cost money to join?
The training is free and unpaid. Meals are included and transportation support is available.
